Tayside Local Group

Events & Diary Dates

2011 forthcoming events

Our monthly meetings continue to be held on the last Wednesday of the month at 7 pm.  The current venue is the Methodist Church, Marketgait, Dundee.  It is situated across the dual carriageway from the Overgate Centre, between the shiny big Alliance Trust HQ and the South Tay Street Car Park. So the next meeting will be held there on Weds 30 November 2011 at 7 pm.

Anyone who wants to find out more about Friends of the Earth Tayside is welcome to come along to one of our meetings - don't be shy!  Get in touch first if you wish, by e-mail or phone.

At the AGM on 26 October we had a stimulating discussion on the current Dundee Local Development Plan consultation process.  We agreed to 2 further meetings:

On Weds 2 November, as many as possible of us will attend the City Council's open consultation event at the Central Library, Wellgate Centre.  We aim to be there from 6 pm. It goes on to 7.30.

On Monday 7 November, at 7 pm, we will have a follow-up discussion to decide on which issues we want to raise, at the Braes pub on Perth Road, opposite the University Tower Block.

The City Council consultation page can be accessed by clicking here and direct links to the Council documents and response forms are given below:

RECENT EVENTS

Beachwatch 2011 took place on the weekend of 17/18 September.  Cleanups will be organised as follows:

  • Saturday 17 Sept : 10am-12 noon Broughty Ferry; 1-4 pm Monifieth
  • Sunday 18 Sept : 10am-12 noon Auchmithie; 1-4 pm Lunan Bay and possibly St Cyrus.

It's all well organised.  Gloves and collection bags will be provided.  To check the latest details, go to the Marine Conservation Society Beachwatch site and scroll down for the beach nearest you!

The following events have recently taken place:

Election hustings 7 April 2011 (see the Activities page)

Dundee Food and Flower Festival - 4-6 September 2010 - FoET took part in a stall over the weekend along with Tayside Recyclers.  There was a Low Carbon Garden showing a variety of novel ways of bringing gardening to every home.   Visitors were able to find out more about FoET activities and how they can get involved, with no obligation to join up on the day!

Annual beach cleanup - 18/19 September - FoET and Tayside Recyclers once again organised the successful and enjoyable cleanup along the Tayside coastline from Dundee to Montrose.  Let us know if you'd like to help keep your beach clean next year.  See more details on the Activities page.

Dundee transport disintegration - 25 September - we continue to be concerned about the lack of connection between Dundee's bus and train stations, and the bus stops in the city centre.  This is particularly a problem for people coming in from outside Dundee, and for tourists visiting the area.  So we organised a protest on Saturday 25 September supported by other organisations who share our concerns.

And a sponsored bike ride recently took place as part of a national FoE fund-raising campaign.

Phase 2 of the Friockheim tree planting is now due to be held in 2011, after last November's highly successful outing to the park when nearly 300 small trees were planted by FoET members and children from the local school.
