TTIP – What it is and why we need to stop it

The purpose of the event is to share information about the trade deal which we are opposing, and to plan some local action.

Come and learn more about this EU-US trade deal and corporate power grab, why we need to stop it, and how we might begin to take action in Dundee. With speakers from Global Justice Now (used to be the World Development Movement) and Dundee Trades Union Congress.
The Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) is a EU-US trade deal and corporate power grab that threatens democracies across Europe. The deal includes plans to ‘harmonise’ laws between the two superpowers which will likely weaken hard-won legislation on our environment, food and workers’ rights, and threaten our public services. Plans for corporate courts (Investor-State-Dispute-Settlement) allowing big business to sue governments for any new laws that might affect their profits, bypassing national court systems, has horrified citizens across Europe. A movement to stop the trade deal is growing across the continent.
TTIP will affect people in Scotland: from the NHS and other public services, to laws on fracking, local procurement, and the food we eat. We must make our voices heard with others across Europe and stop this trade deal. Please come along on 25 February and help us organise action in Dundee.
This is a free event, but please let us know you are coming: on facebook:
Global Justice Now recently took a group of 130 activists to Brussels to protest against TTIP during the latest round of negotiations. Read about what they did here:
