Lord Stern says he underestimated the risks from climate change

The author of the influential report published by the UK Treasury in 2006 on the economic impacts of climate change, now says he underestimated the risks which it posed.  He was speaking at the World Economic Forum at Davos in January 2013.

Rather than the two degrees of global warming anticipated in the report, he now believes we are on track for something more like four degrees, which would have devastating consequences.  He called for more investment in green technologies, in a message seemingly aimed at climate change sceptics in the UK Government.

The new president of the World Bank, Jim Yong Kim, predicted that a four degree rise would result in fights over water and food around the world.
